Stanley Cup Visits LA Kings' Sponsor Mercury Insurance

Jesenice, Slovenia; Viking, Alberta, Canada; and now Brea – the Cup visits Mercury, a 2014 playoff presenting partner of the LA Kings

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2014) – The Stanley Cup has had its share of unique experiences: from serving as a bowl for ice cream to riding on a river in a kayak. Today, another chapter was added to the trophy’s storied history when it made a stop at Mercury Insurance, a 2014 playoff presenting partner of the L.A. Kings, where more than 1,000 Mercury employees hung out with hockey’s ultimate prize. Kings’ mascot Bailey and members of the team’s Ice Crew also joined the party.

“Hugging the Cup has been on my bucket list and now I can finally cross it off,” said Mercury customer service manager Tim Short. “It was a once in a lifetime experience.”

The 2014 National Hockey League champion Kings were allotted 100 days to pass around the Cup when they defeated the NY Rangers in five games last June. Since then it has traveled to numerous locations, including Russia, Canada and Sweden before visiting Mercury’s Brea office.

“This is amazing,” said Mercury senior human capital business partner Carrie Harrelson. “I never imagined that when I joined Mercury I’d get to take a picture with the Cup.”

First presented in 1893, the Cup is the oldest trophy in North American professional sports, and it’s the only trophy that bears the names of players, coaches, management and staff from the winning teams.
