Mercury Insurance Helps Atlanta-Based Charity Send Ailing Children To Walt Disney World

$10,000-plus Mercury donation to assist ‘Bert’s Big Adventure,’ which benefits chronically and terminally ill children

Sep 23, 2011

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2011) – Mercury Insurance announced today it is contributing $10,000 to “Bert’s Big Adventure,” founded by Atlanta radio personality Bert Weiss, to help fund all-expense paid getaways to Walt Disney World for children with chronic or terminal illnesses and their families. Mercury will also contribute an additional $10 for each free, no-obligation quote completed at www.mercuryinsurance.com/bert. This supplemental donation program will begin once 1,000 quotes have been generated and will run from September 26 through October 31, 2011.

“Mercury is a community-based company with local agents throughout Georgia, and we’re very pleased to be able to partner with the Bert’s Big Adventure community to help bring some joy to these courageous kids and their families,” says Erik Thompson, advertising director for Mercury Insurance, which offers auto and homeowners insurance in Georgia.

Mercury offers some of the lowest rates in Georgia, so consumers may find when they get a quote they could save hundreds of dollars a year by switching to Mercury, and they’ll be making a donation to a worthy cause, too. As an example, if one-third of Bert’s Twitter followers generate a quote, Mercury will be contributing more than $20,000 to Bert’s Big Adventure.

“In addition to helping ailing children, consumers visiting our website can learn about the dangers of texting while driving, find great rates on auto coverage and purchase a policy,” says Thompson.

Bert and Stacy Weiss founded Bert’s Big Adventure to give children (ages 5-12), whose families are in financial need, the opportunity to experience a worry-free Disney World weekend.  The foundation, which is funded through sponsorships, charters a flight and provides all Disney World accommodations for the child, parents, siblings and medical staff.

“We depend on partnerships with companies, like Mercury Insurance, to sponsor our annual Walt Disney World trips,” said Bert Weiss, founder of Bert’s Big Adventure and a radio personality on Q100’s The Bert Show.  “There is no ceiling on Mercury’s donation, so community leaders should get involved and urge their colleagues, friends and family to take five minutes to generate a free quote.  Participating in Mercury’s promotion will allow us to host more Bert’s Big Adventure events in the future and provide these families with a welcome break from the battles they face.”
