LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 25, 2013) – Mercury Insurance has been providing auto insurance to California drivers since 1962, covering everything from Acuras to Volkswagens. Since all cars and trucks are not created equal in the realm of insurance, some vehicles are less expensive to insure than others.
Mercury’s research and development team – the folks who use math, stats and financial theory to analyze risk and calculate rates – recently examined the top 100 make/model combinations in California for 2009 – 2013. Based on the price for full coverage, here are the least expensive vehicles (listed in order) for Mercury to insure.
“There are two main reasons these vehicles are less expensive to insure: they are involved in fewer accidents; and if they are in an accident, the average cost to repair them is lower*,” said Mercury Group Product Manager Jeff Schroeder. “The vehicles on our list, led by the Honda Odyssey, are more than 10 percent cheaper to insure than the average cars and trucks insured by Mercury.”
Mercury boasts more than 1,000 independent agents in California and is the state’s leading independent agency writer of automobile insurance.
*Other factors, such as a driver’s experience and accident history, can push the rate up or down, but were not included in the rate calculations.
