Mercury Insurance and Mike Rose's Auto Body in Antioch Present Restored Vehicle to Single Mother In-Need

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2012) – Mercury Insurance and Mike Rose’s Auto Body welcomed the holiday season by donating a restored vehicle Dec. 12 to Kayla Walker, a 22-year-old single mother in Vacaville who has never been able to afford a car.  The gift was part of a community benevolence program which presents refurbished vehicles to deserving individuals and organizations in surrounding communities.  This marks Mercury’s 10^th consecutive year participating in the initiative with Mike Rose’s Auto Body.

“Year after year, Mercury creates a positive impact on people’s lives by handing over the keys to a car,” said Darlyne Brewer-Jacot, Mercury’s director of agency communications and sales development.  “Kayla is a determined, single parent who is working hard to pursue college and live her dreams.  We hope this vehicle will afford Kayla the freedom to achieve her goals.”

Walker was raised in homeless shelters and survived on welfare for the majority of her childhood.  She moved to California by herself at age 17 and worked several jobs to support her now five-year-old daughter.  Despite her efforts, she’s never had the financial means to buy a car.

“I struggle every day to overcome my childhood,” said Walker, “but I’m doing my best to become self-sufficient.  Thanks to Mercury Insurance and Mike Rose’s Auto Body, I’ll now have reliable transportation and be able to get my General Education Degree (GED) and start college.  I want to be able to give my daughter the advantages in life I never had.”

Walker says Mercury’s donation, a 2008 Ford Focus, will give her more time and flexibility to pursue her studies while balancing her work and family life.
