LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2012) – The Stanley Cup, the oldest, most traveled trophy in professional sports, made a visit to the Orange County office of L.A. Kings sponsor Mercury Insurance today. More than 1,000 Mercury employees were on-hand to view and take pictures with hockey’s ultimate prize, which was accompanied by Kings’ mascot Bailey, the team’s Ice Crew and the trophy’s personal handler.
"Thanks to the Kings we had one very special hour with the Cup today," said Mercury Advertising Director Erik Thompson. "I'd guess we had more than a thousand people packing the halls waiting for the chance to take a photo with the trophy. It was quite a treat for everybody to see the most famous prize in sports, and I’m happy to say that everyone had a chance to get a photo."
The 2012 National Hockey League champion Kings are allowed 100 days to pass the Cup around, including the team’s parade, a day with each player and staff member and days with sponsors. As an example, Lord Stanley’s Cup spent time recently in a horse-drawn wagon in Hrusica, Slovenia with Kings center Anze Kopitar before visiting Mercury’s office in Brea, California.
