Today, consumers have many more types and options of vehicles to choose from than ever before, and there’s a lot of used car inventory available for those who want to upgrade but also want to save money on the purchase price.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 18, 2020) – Consumers have flocked to used vehicles this year, mostly because of a tightening supply of new vehicles along with prices climbing to record highs due to strong consumer demand. Mercury Insurance (NYSE: MCY), a leading auto insurer in California and provider of auto insurance in 10 other states, has put together lists of the most affordable used vehicles for various segments and fuel types to help value car-shoppers find a vehicle that will save them money on insurance.
Mercury’s research and development team examined 2016 to 2019 model year (MY) coupes, convertibles, sedans, SUVs, vans, trucks and fuel efficient vehicles – including pure electric vehicles (EVs) – to compile these lists[1].
“Today, consumers have many more types and options of vehicles to choose from than ever before, and there’s a lot of used car inventory available for those who want to upgrade but also want to save money on the purchase price,” said Chong Gao, director of product management R&D for Mercury Insurance. “Used vehicles tend to have lower insurance costs in general because of the vehicle’s value, and knowing the cost to insure the vehicle you want ahead of time is another way to help keep ownership costs low and save money. Mercury scanned the industry to put together these lists as a guide for consumers to consider in terms of insurance costs.”
