LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercury Insurance representatives are ready to assist victims of Hurricane Irma with home and vehicle claims. Mercury customers can report losses and damages through the claims hotline at (800) 503-3724.

"Hurricane Irma has left a trail of destruction in in its wake, and Mercury's claims team is ready to help Georgians begin to put their lives back together after this storm," says Mercury Insurance Chief Claims Officer Randy Petro. "We urge residents to take the necessary precautions for their family and pets when returning home. Water surges and strong winds can take down power lines and block roads, and you should be extra careful when traversing flooded roads, creeks and streams.

"The Mercury Insurance claims team is ready to respond quickly to our customers' requests for help. Whether it's providing living expenses while they're out of their homes due to a covered loss or facilitating claims, we're committed to providing Mercury policyholders with the assistance they need."

Mercury claims adjusters will assess damage to policyholders' property due to rain and wind.  Homeowners seeking coverage from flood and debris flows should review the National Flood Insurance Program at www.floodsmart.gov/floodsmart/pages/about/nfip_overview.jsp

Georgians can help spread this message by following @MercuryIns on Twitter and ReTweeting: "Mercury policyholders impacted by the #HurricaneIrma call (800) 503-3724 to file a claim ASAP."

Petro advises policyholders to follow a few simple procedures to help the claims process run smoothly.

When filing a claim

  • Contact Mercury immediately to report your loss.
  • Be prepared to provide your policy number.
  • Do not remove debris or damaged property that may be related to your claim.

Steps after filing a claim

  • Prepare a detailed inventory of destroyed or damaged property.
  • Offer photos or videos of your home and possessions to your adjuster, if these are available.
  • Keep copies of communications between you and your adjuster.
  • Keep records and receipts for additional living expenses that were incurred if you were forced to leave your home, and provide copies to your adjuster.
